Welcome to Year One

In Year 1 we take time in the autumn term to get to know new friends as the children from Purple and Yellow class are mixed together to make two new classes - Orange and Silver. This creates two evenly balanced classes with a fairer range of birthdays, abilities and gender.

We get to know each other through play activities, name games and plenty of fun! We enjoy reading stories, listening to stories and writing our own stories, often getting ideas from some drama. In the autumn term we also take part in a Magnificent Maths Meal and also go for a walk around the local area.

In the spring term we read many interesting non-fiction books based on our themes for this term, Playgrounds and Toys from the Past. We also read poems and stories about these topics. We have great fun investigating toys our mums, dads and grandparents enjoyed. Our special event this term is to go to Kidzone to investigate Forces for science.

In the summer term we grow plants and find out about Homes Long Ago. Our art topic is Sculpture and we make some exciting models using different materials.
