Welcome to Year Two

Year 2 is a very exciting year. We cover many topics including nature from across the world, London, Horatio Nelson and researching a country in detail. In Literacy we develop the children’s writing skills helping them to write creatively and include a range of adjectives, connectives and punctuation in all their writing. We focus on specific children’s authors such as Dick King Smith as well as making our own non-fiction books to include contents, glossaries and an index. We use IT across the curriculum. The children use IT to research topic work as well as using it for their own presentations.

In Numeracy we have fun building on our knowledge from previous years and developing the children to understand the logic and pattern of numbers, advancing into the hundreds. We also learn about how to interpret charts and graphs as well as making our own.

We cover a lot of interesting issues in Year 2 and being an eco school we focus on how we can help the environment. We also look more globally and write to our partner school in Ojere.

We prepare the children for their next step on the educational path towards KS2 and Junior school.
