Newsletter 18th May 2010

Dear Parents,

I hope that you all had an enjoyable Easter break and that anyone delayed by the volcanic cloud has managed to get back to normal!

A special welcome too to all our new families who joined Chestnut Lane School this term.

Parent questionnaires

Thank you to everyone who returned a form. We are currently working on the analysis of the information and will feedback to you all shortly.

Parents’ Association

Thank you to everyone who supported the PA events last term.

There will also be a fashion show held at Chestnut Lane on 25th May, doors open 7.30pm, tickets £3 each. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for this event please call in at the school office or look on the school’s website under CLESA.

The PA work very hard to organise these events which raise a lot of additional funds for the school. This year we are working towards replacing the old changing rooms in the adventure playground with an outdoor classroom. The project will cost about £20,000 – providing a cabin style room and furnishing it with tables, chairs, all weather clothing and science equipment. It will also mean that the children will have increased access to the field to conduct environmental studies. We are all very excited by this project and appreciate any support you can give to the PA committee.

Parking

We have received several complaints about parking, particularly on the roads adjacent to the school and the zig zag zone outside the school. As always, I am concerned about the children’s safety, access by emergency vehicles, as well being considerate to our neighbours.

Therefore, traffic wardens and the police will be patrolling the area regularly and tickets will be issued if cars are park inappropriately.

Summer Term Weather

As we all know the weather is totally unpredictable. Please make sure that your child has a named coat and a sunhat in school every day. Early years children spend at least 50% of their time outside and year 1 & 2 children continue to go out to play whatever the weather.

Scooter/Bike Lane

If your child/ren brings a bike or scooter to school, please remind them to use the bike/scooter lane when coming up the drive.

www.buy.at/chestnutlaneschool

Please take a look at the above website when shopping on line. At no extra cost to yourselves and using the link above you can raise funds for Chestnut Lane when shopping on line. By using the link you can access websites for Amazon, Marks and Spencer, Asda, Littlewoods and many more well known retailers.

Tesco and Sainsbury Vouchers

The campaign for collecting Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers for school will be ending soon. If you have any at home please bring them in to school as soon as possible. After the cut off date (June 29th) we will not be able to use any others handed in to school.

Thank you to Mrs Bean and Ms Stenner for counting the vouchers.

Educating Children in Public Care (ECPC)

Redevelopment of the old caretaker’s house is almost complete. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and patience while the builders were on the premises.

INSET Day

There are two INSET Days on 7th & 8th June which means school will re-open on Wednesday 9th June at 8.50am.
