Information in Case of Adverse Weather

This time of the year we start to think about the weather and even the possibility of having to close the school due to adverse weather conditions.

My priority is to keep the school open whenever possible. A decision to close the school is made after careful consideration of a number of issues that include the staff’s ability to travel to school, staff to pupil ratios and the condition of the school grounds with my paramount concern being the safety of pupils and staff.

There are several ways parents are notified of the status of the school.

There are now good systems in place; on the Bucks County Council’s school closure listing, our teacher2parents text messaging system and our own website.

Therefore, any school closures will be:

  • Registered on the Bucks Council’s closure list at closures.buckscc.gov.uk/Default.aspx, or go directly to the Bucks CC website, click on Schools, School Closures, and follow the instructions.
  • Recorded on the school’s website at chestnutlane.bucks.sch.uk/
  • Reported to parents via text using the teacher to parents system
  • Recorded message on the school’s answer machine (only if a member of staff can get into school). Please check all other systems before phoning the school.

Please notify us of any changes to contact details.

If the school is partly open (e.g. to working parents) it will be stated on the websites and by text/email. We will update the websites and send further texts/emails when the situation changes. If the school is closed for more than one day we will text parents to confirm when the school reopens as and when we know.

If you are unable to access websites or receive texts we suggest you arrange with another parent to contact you in emergencies.

Please keep an eye on all of the above.
