Welcome To Chestnut Lane School & Little Chestnuts Preschool

At Chestnut Lane School our values make us who we are!  We are passionate about instilling respect, kindness, resilience, independence and responsibility in all children from nursery to year 2, role-modelled by our staff and the wider school community.

Supporting everybody’s wellbeing is fundamental to promoting these values.  We are proud to have achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools and embedded a whole school mental health and wellbeing policy, for the children, staff and families.  We know how important it is for children’s learning that they feel safe, secure and confident which is why wellbeing is a priority for us all.  We have developed a substantial resource base within our designated Wellbeing Room, including a large library of age-appropriate books to cover a range of emotions, and social situations.

Our diverse and multi-cultural school community is one of our biggest assets.  Through collaboration we broaden everyone’s experiences, enhancing our respect and kindness for others, and learning from one another.  We have a growing range of core books which provide a stimulus for achieving our equality and diversity aims.  We believe sharing and celebrating together at this early stage, creates better citizens for the future.

We believe in the importance of promoting learning behaviours within all pupils which will benefit them now and in the future. Opportunities to develop characteristics such as curiosity, overcoming barriers and self-reflection are regularly provided, and encouraged throughout the curriculum. This is achieved alongside engaging, hands-on activities, based on our whole school topics which evolve each year in-line with the pupils’ interests.  Our flexible groupings and smaller group intensive teaching sessions, for all pupils, ensure our curriculum is personalised to support and challenge every individual.

The children receive rich and varied experiences throughout the curriculum, where they develop their confidence and self-esteem, including enjoying additional multi-sport, dance and music lessons taught by specialist teachers, who complement our staffing team.  Outdoor learning runs throughout our curriculum, with all space maximised to enhance the children’s cross-curricular learning.  Extra-curricular opportunities are broadened further through first-hand visits, workshops and events across the year.  These are best demonstrated on our Instagram account.

We hope that our website provides you with the information you need about Chestnut Lane School, whether you are choosing a new school for your child or have children at the school already.
