School Readiness
Wellbeing begins with having our needs met. Before children can thrive, learn and reach their full potential, their basic needs must be understood and met. Being able to communicate our needs, eat and drink, use the toilet and manage everyday tasks can help us feel safe, comfortable and secure. When these needs are not met or children struggle to express them, they may experience anxiety, frustration or worry.
Developing independence, building friendships, learning to share and taking turns can help children develop confidence, connection and a sense of belonging. These skills all contribute to our physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
Every child is different. Children develop at their own pace, and some will need additional support, adaptations or alternative ways to communicate and participate. Our aim is not for every child to achieve the same level of independence, but for every child to feel understood, supported, valued and able to flourish.
