Toileting
Being able to manage toileting needs, with appropriate support, is an important part of a child’s physical and emotional wellbeing. When children struggle to recognise, communicate or manage their toileting needs, they may experience discomfort, anxiety, frustration or embarrassment. This can affect their confidence, independence, participation in activities and readiness to learn.
Supporting toileting in a calm, positive and pressure-free way helps children feel safe, respected and secure. Every child develops at their own pace, and some children will need additional time, adaptations or support. The aim is to protect each child’s dignity, meet their individual needs and help them develop confidence in a way that works for them.
